Learning Centre, Bournemouth, UK.

(Bournemouth Thai Language and Culture School)

Bournemouth Thai language and Culture School or the officially name is "Thailand Non-Formal and Informal Education Learning Centre, Bournemouth, UK.," established in  March 2003 for Thai children who have Thai parent or Thai mother and English father. Ages from 5-15 years old, every Sunday from 13.30 -15.30 pm at  St. Andrew’s Church, Florence Road, Boscombe, Bournemouth  BH5 1HJ

In the first time, the pupils at the school in 2003 had to meet the fees themselves (£60 per month), later the same year Bournemouth Borough Council became aware of the school and understood that more children could be helped if funding was made available and pay £60 per year.

In the early year 2005, we started the class for parent and toddler group (1-4 yrs.), to teach Thai’s mother, how to bring their children up as bilingual and give the children a chance to explore Thai culture.

On 29th November 2006, Bournemouth Thai Language and Culture School had changed their name to “Thailand Non Formal and Informal Education Learning Centre of Bournemouth” by the Office of Non-Formal and Informal Education, Ministry of Education, Bangkok, and is the first ever Thai Language Centre in the UK.

Mrs. Piyanan Tepnarin became the head of the school. Her duties included giving out information on the school, helping Thai-English people learn more Thai and more about the culture by giving out books/leaflets/anything media related on the Thai language.

Bournemouth Thai Language and Culture School provides an opportunity for children and young people from mixed heritage families (Thai – English) to meet socially and explore Thai culture and language.

The Thai school provides 2 groups:

  1.  Teaching Thai Language and Culture to children 5-12 years old.

   2. Teaching Thai music (Thai classical music Instruments) for the children age 7-15 years old.
